Hard to find debute of this awesome Neo-classial progressive Power metal band from Finland. However, this 1st release was not really a ground breaking triumph. In fact, it was rather bland and poor production. Just another band with good guitar harmonies and a high-end singer. Although, Stratovarius would PROVE to be a band that improved on its formula with every album they released.
2nd album DID improve in both sound quallity and musicianship. With Timo Tolki on guitar and vocals, Stratovarius started their upward journey to greatness.
Considered by fans to be the best album with Tolki on lead vocals. Tolki only sang lead on the 1st 3 releases. This album was faster and sounded better than ever.
First album to include the new singer Timo Kotipelto. Kotipelto had a better range and quallity to his voice. Tolki may have stepped away from the mic, but he remained the guitarist and primary writer of the band's music. Production was even tighter and musicianship was becoming legendary in Power metal. The overall sound was becoming more high-octane.
On the opening track "Father Time" it becomes clear that Stratovarius has become a serious contender in the world of melodic metal! very fast and very crisp production with those trademark double bass drums. Every song has something to offer.
My fav' Strato' cd! This is a mix between Keepers-era Helloween and Yngwie Malmsteen! Every song is good and their formula is tighter than ever. This one gets my highest recommendation! Class and a new age type atmosphere gives you this "free" feeling when you listen to it. The title track is an epic masterpiece of musicality!
"LIVE: VISIONS OF EUROPE"
Wow! These guys sound great live too. 2 cds of their greatest hits live. No matter how jaded you are about Powermetal, one must admit this band is on target and energetic.
A very enchanting soundscape mixed with speed. Some really great moments and 2 epic 10+min songs.
"THE CHOSEN ONES"
Collection of rare Japan only b-sides and greatist hits voted for by the fans online. There is a flaw with this compilation, the last track has the last few seconds cut off. Tracks were remastered and sound great!
An almost perfect album!
"INFINITE" (2CD BOX EDITION)
"HUNTING HIGHT AND LOW" (SINGLE)
"A MILLION LIGHT YEARS AWAY" (SINGLE)
"ELEMENTS PT 1"
"ELEMEMTS PT 2"
1st album without Timo Tolki. It's pretty darn good too!
